Polestar launches Zero Emission Mobile Advertising Campaign

Dec 18, 2023

Polestar, the Swedish electric performance car brand, is determined to improve society by using design and technology to accelerate the shift to sustainable mobility, including how they advertise.

Polestar New Zealand has launched a zero-emission campaign, which includes a moving billboard promoting the Clean Car Rebate available on Polestar 2 vehicles until 31 December. The campaign combines Net Zero digital boards with the moving billboard, highlighting the 1500kg towing capacity of Polestar 2.

The award-winning MY23 Polestar 2 is now available from $67,000. The run-out pricing means the range starts at $59,985 after claiming the Clean Car Discount.

The goal was to get the 'word on the street', and several options were considered, including the more conventional advertising method on Buses. However, this was vetoed due to the carbon impact of primarily diesel-fueled buses. "It would be counter-productive to have our clean message on the back of a bus belching black smoke," says Polestar NZ Brand Manager Bruce Fowler.

Fowler says the Zero Emmison Advertising approach "perfectly aligns with Polestar's overarching commitment to reducing their environmental footprint in every market."

In 2023, the Swedish EV-maker reduced relative CO2 e-emissions per car sold by eight per cent compared to 2021 levels and is on track towards its goals of halving relative emissions by 2030.

The factory where Polestar 2 is built now runs on 100 per cent renewable electricity and a diversified product portfolio with a larger share of single motor vehicles with lower energy demand during production.

In addition to their environmental footprint from production, EVs also have a social footprint. Polestar uses blockchain to trace risk materials back to the mine, mitigating social and environmental risks in complex supply chains. Material traceability has increased to include cobalt, mica, lithium, nickel, leather, and wool.

The Polestar 0 project, the company's goal to create a genuinely climate-neutral car by 2030, has now been joined by over 20 leading players from various industries, all focused on finding solutions to eliminate CO2e and re-think processes instead of relying on misleading offsetting schemes.

Polestar's moving billboard will  be on Auckland roads until the end of the year,
